When I Am Overwhelmed

"From the end of the Earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I." Psalms 61:2 KJV

David is here our blessed psalmist. It is a time in the life of the King that is full of trouble. David was in exile from the tabernacle which was the visible abode of God. This Psalm was written at the time of Absalom's rebellion. David, because he had been cast out, felt like he was at the end of the Earth. I am glad that there is not a place too isolated that God's people cannot reach heaven. I noticed also David cried to the right place. Unto thee will I cry for help. Our heavenly Father is always there for us. When my heart is overwhelmed it is a serious condition.

The thought here is a picture of waves of water coming upon us. A man in this condition is like unto a man drowning in the sea. He is tossed too and fro. He gets his breath and is then pushed under again. Imagine a man who is in the sea. He is tossed about but finally washes up to a rock. This rock serves as a cleft to get back and safe from the water. It also has another purpose. Once the man is in the cleft, he notices a passage way that leads out the back and upon top of the rock. Once he is on top of the rock, he is now above the very water that troubled and overwhelmed him. I praise my God that when I am overwhelmed He always leads me to the Rock of Ages cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee. Amen.
